We see camera sensors by Sony on our smartphones – like way too often. Those are tiny sensors when we compare them to Full-Frame sensors which are used on several mirrorless and DSLRs. Continuous efforts are being made by several brands – including Sony – to reduce the overall footprint of the cameras with full-frame sensors. And to double down on that, Sony has just launched the Sony A7C – also known as Alpha 7C – where C stands for Compact. According to the claims made by Sony, this is the smallest full-frame mirrorless camera in the world.

Sony A7C Camera Specifications

Sony A7C comes with the same 24.2MP 35mm full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor – which was found on the Sony A7III. Also, it is using the same BIONZ X image processor from the Sony A7III – which is not bad by any means. This new compact camera can push the sensitivity up to ISO 51,200 – which would be decent enough. Also, the camera can shoot 14-bit RAW images and has 15-stops of dynamic range.

Sony A7C for Images

On the image side, the A7C can shoot up to 10fps burst – which sounds pretty good as it’s not intended to be a Sports Photography camera. Also, the camera features AI-driven real-time autofocus tracking and real-time eye AF tracking for people and animals. Also, features like customizable AF transition and subject shift sensitivity settings are imported from their higher-end camera A7SIII.

Sony A7C for Videos

For video, Sony A7C is capable of shooting 4K 30fps 8-bit 4:2:0 internal recording with no recording limits. Not only that, but the camera also comes with In-Body Image Stabilization – also known as IBIS. It’s great to see that implemented in a smaller and compact camera. Also, to help creators create better videos, Sony has finally provided their new articulating Flip LCD screen. It’s a 3.0-inch 921k dot touchscreen – with limited touch capabilities. There’s also an OLED electronic viewfinder on the Sony A7C with 2.35M dots.

Sony A7C

Software wise, we see the same older menu system from A7III instead of the newer one found on A7SIII. Sony A7C comes with all necessary ports – despite having a smaller body. Microphone and headphone jacks, micro HDMI and USB Type-C for charging and data are all present and accounted for. There’s only a single SDXC card slot – which should be enough for most content creators. It also retains the same battery as the Sony A7III – which will give greater battery life.

New Full-Frame Lens

Along with this new compact full frame body, Sony has also revealed a new kit lens. It’s the FE 28-60mm f4.0-5.6 collapsible lens – which looks tiny when we compare it to other full frame lenses in the market. Also, this lens will be capable of using the complete width of the full-frame sensor. And that’s particularly great as other cheaper and smaller lenses are unable to do it. Sony also claims that this is the smallest and lightest full frame zoom lens.

Sony A7C

The Kit – including the FE 28-60mm f4.0-5.6 lens and the camera body – is priced at $2099.99 while only the Sony A7C body can be purchased for $1799.99. If you want to purchase the lens separately, then it’ll cost you $499.99. The camera will start shipping in late October while the estimated shipping time for the lens is around February 2021.

The pre-orders for the Sony A7C and even the new FE 28-60mm f4.0-5.6 lens can be placed on Moment Store right now. So, if you are willing to book yours, go ahead and do it.
