Majority of Android users have been using Google Photos to back up their photos since quite a few years now. Google provided free unlimited storage for “High Quality” image uploads on Google Photos. But well, it is now confirmed that Google will stop providing that free storage on Google Photos starting June 2021.

It is important to note that this new policy will be implemented starting June 2021. So, if you have any images uploaded before that, you won’t be affected. However, the images which are uploaded after June 2021 will occupy storage from the default 15GB storage that is provided with the Google Account. Once that is filled up, you’ll either have to delete some files or pay for the Google One subscription – if you want to continue uploading images there.

Another important piece of information that Google has provided is that if you own a Pixel device, you’ll continue get the free storage which was promised to you. According to Google, about 80 percent users won’t really hit the 15GB storage limit – at least, for three years. Also, Google will continue to notify you if you’re about to fill up the free-tier cap. Not only that but Google has also promised to release a new tool by June 2021 which will help users to manage the storage on Google.

Google says that Google Photos has over a billion of users today. And for them to continue providing the service to everyone without any major faults, this was an important step. Some might agree to their reasoning while some others may think that this is the best way to make money out of those users who will use more storage. What do you think about this step?
