Oppo Ace2 was just announced a few hours ago. And we are just a few hours away from the launch of the OnePlus 8 Series. It looks like the Ace2 would give a tough competition to the OnePlus 8 Series – at least in their home market. Some things are just better on the Oppo Ace2 while some other things are expected to be better on the OnePlus 8 Series. So, this creates a huge question right now. Did Oppo Ace2 just steal the limelight away from OnePlus 8 Series?

Well, without wasting much of your time, we would like to specify that there’s no specific answer to this. OnePlus 8 Series hasn’t launched yet while the Oppo Ace2 already did. This means we will be relying on the leaks, rumours and some confirmations – which are revealed by OnePlus – for the OnePlus 8 Series. As the Ace2 is already launched, there’s no need to rely on leaks and rumours for that.

Also, before we begin doing this, we would like to specify that we will be comparing the Ace2 with the OnePlus 8 and not the OnePlus 8 Pro – because of the price the Oppo Ace2 has launched at. Rest of the article will be divided into 5 main parts: Performance, Display, Camera, Battery and Software. At the end, we’ll have a Conclusion just to conclude the article.

Performance

Oppo Ace2 launched with the flagship Snapdragon 865 SoC with the 5G connectivity support. It is available with the options of 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.0 Internal Storage. OnePlus 8 is also expected to launch with the same SoC as well as the same RAM/Storage configuration options. This means there won’t be much of a difference in the performance of both devices.

Display

OnePlus 8 is expected to have a 6.55-inch FHD+ 90Hz AMOLED display. It is also expected that this display will have a punch hole cut out on the top left corner to equip the selfie camera. Oppo Ace2 is already launched with the 6.5-inch FHD+ 90HZ OLED display – with the same punch hole cut-out on the top left corner. So again, not much of a difference between these two.

Camera

Here, the Oppo Ace2 has launched with a quad camera setup on the back. This setup includes a 48MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. On the front, the Oppo Ace2 packs a 16MP selfie shooter in that punch hole cut-out. This is where we see differences between these two devices. OnePlus 8 is expected to have a triple rear camera setup. This setup would include the 48MP primary, 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro. On the front though, OnePlus 8 is just expected to have a 16MP shooter as well.

Note that megapixels aren’t the only thing which matter in a camera. And the camera on OnePlus 8 can indeed turn out to be better depending on the difference of sensors they’ll be using, the aperture of the lens and software. However, the portraits might just come out better with the Oppo Ace2 – thanks to the depth sensor.

We would prefer to have a telephoto sensor instead of depth sensor – any day. And it’s not like a depth sensor is extremely useful. But having it versus not having it does make a difference – a tiny bit, but a difference, nonetheless. So, according to the current situation (and not having tested either of those cameras personally), there’s a slight advantage for the Oppo Ace2.

Battery

OnePlus 8 is expected to launch with a 4,300 mAh battery. This will be capable of 30W fast wired charging through Warp Charge technology. For the wireless charging, it is still unclear whether the OnePlus 8 will have support for the 30W Wireless Warp Charge or not. But let’s give it a slight advantage and consider it has the support for the same.

Oppo Ace2 – which is already launched – has a 4,000 mAh battery. It has the support of 65W fast wired charging through the SuperVOOC 2.0 technology. Not only that but it even has the support of 40W fast wireless charging – thanks to AirVOOC wireless charging.

So, even though the battery capacity might be a bit lower than what is expected for the OnePlus 8, the faster wired as well as wireless charging seems to make up for that. In my opinion, it not only makes up for the difference but also gets one extra point for that.

Software

Oppo Ace2 has launched with the ColorOS 7.1 which is based on Android 10. ColorOS 7 has seen quite a lot of improvements when compared to previous years. However, OnePlus 8 Series is expected to launch with OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10 – which would just be a better software experience for me.

Conclusion

Overall, it seems like the Oppo Ace2 is slightly better option than the OnePlus 8. This conclusion would be valid especially if the OnePlus 8 is launched at a similar or higher price than the Oppo Ace2. Also, the cost of the wireless charger will be a factor in deciding the overall pricing – as we must get that charger to achieve fast wireless charging.

Note that this conclusion is just based on the leaks and rumours of the OnePlus 8 when compared to the final product by Oppo – The Ace2. It might change when the product is finally launched within a few hours
